Safer Internet Day 2024 in France

In France, Safer Internet Day 2024 was celebrated through events promoting young people's voices, including youth panels, educational workshops in schools in partnership with the National Education system, and a gathering at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This series encouraged internet users to engage and act to be more responsible online.

On Tuesday, 6 February 2024, the French Safer Internet Centre organised an event with the government spokesperson and Minister of Democratic Renewal, Prisca Thévenot, 120 digital and child protection actors, and 80 young people who presented their reflections and creations related to the campaign. It was an opportunity to reinforce the values of engagement and responsibility in an ever-evolving digital world.

Young people were active participants in the French SID event

Activities encouraged internet users to engage and act to be more responsible online. Under the slogan Connected, engaged... and you? participants were invited to choose one of the following three topics and share it on social media:

  • Taming my algorithms: Keeping control of one's digital life and not letting oneself be consumed by screens or dictated by unwanted content.
  • The GOAT is me: Becoming a caring and respectful ambassador of one's community by combating cyberbullying and online hate.
  • My impact, I manage it: Becoming aware of the environmental impact of digital technology and knowing how to adapt personal usage accordingly.

These messages were disseminated through a social media campaign and workshop kits for students from primary to high school, as well as guides for family discussions and sharing of fun activities.
