Safer Internet Centres celebrate SID 2025: Luxembourg

The Luxembourg SIC celebrated Safer Internet Day 2025 with a series of events, including the launch of their 2025 report, a privacy-focused talk, and initiatives for parents, schools, and children on digital safety.

On 11 February 2025, Safer Internet Day (SID) was celebrated as an initiative of the European Commission. Under the global slogan "Together for a better internet", numerous events took place throughout the month, raising awareness of the importance of a safer and more responsible use of media and technology. In Luxembourg, BEE SECURE coordinated various activities to engage the public in discussions about digital safety.

BEE SECURE Radar 2025: Insights into young people’s digital lives

One of the highlights of this year’s SID was the release of the fourth edition of the BEE SECURE Radar 2025 report. This study provides deep insights into the latest trends regarding the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) by young people in Luxembourg. The report was officially presented on 11 February 2025 during the SID event at Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg City.

Annual report 2024: A year of awareness-raising initiatives

BEE SECURE also took the opportunity to unveil its 2024 Annual Report, which summarises the key activities, campaigns, and educational initiatives carried out over the past year in Luxembourg.

Conference on "Digital identities"

Another major event of SID 2025 in Luxembourg was the conference on "Digital Identities", held at Neumünster Abbey. The discussions focused on key topics such as sharenting – the practice of parents and grandparents sharing photos of children online – and digital inheritance. Additionally, a panel discussion on hate speech was organised, bringing together experts from the legal field, the media, and civil society to discuss current challenges and possible solutions. This conference was organised in collaboration with GoldenMe and ULC (Union Luxembourgeoise des Consommateurs).

Movietalk: Privacy in focus

At Kinepolis Kirchberg, the film "The Circle" was screened, followed by a discussion on data protection and online privacy. As part of this Movietalk event, high school students from Luxembourg had the opportunity to critically reflect on the effects of data processing and surveillance. Experts from BEE SECURE provided valuable insights on how to protect personal data in today’s digital landscape.

DigiRallye: Learning through play for children

Children from various Maison Relais centres in Luxembourg participated in a fun and educational DigiRallye, where they learned how to use digital media safely. Around 80 children took part in this initiative and received valuable tips on how to navigate media and technology responsibly in their daily lives.

Expanding support through additional events and school training

Several additional events were also supported as part of SID 2025 in Luxembourg:

  • Parent information session: "Screen life balance – Young people and their smartphones", organised by Lycée Classique d’Echternach in collaboration with the Zenter fir exzessiivt Verhalen a Verhalenssucht
  • Information event on cybercrime and phishing, organised by the Commission Consultative for Security and Prevention in Bettembourg
  • Parent evening: "Children and screens – Challenges and opportunities", organised by the Eltereschoul Janus Korczak

BEE SECURE also aligned all its school training sessions and parent evenings in February 2025 with the Safer Internet Day theme.

Through these diverse initiatives in Luxembourg, BEE SECURE once again contributed to raising awareness about the importance of a safer and more responsible use of digital media in 2025.
