For Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025, the Icelandic Safer Internet Centre (SAFT) focused on educating the public about online safety, disinformation, and the importance of media literacy. The activities aimed to raise awareness and provide practical resources for children, parents, and teachers across the country.
Alongside an open online educational meeting aimed at parents about disinformation, SAFT collaborated with the Directorate for Education and School Services to publish a poster to raise awareness about false news. Additionally, the launch of a new website, "The school about online traffic," was promoted during SID 2025.
For SID 2025, the Iceland SID committee also launched a new educational campaign in partnership with the municipality of Reykjanesbær. This initiative aims to educate all children, teachers, and parents in the region about online safety.
In addition to these educational efforts, SAFT took over a social media platform to promote violence prevention.
Through these initiatives, SAFT continues its mission to improve online safety and promote media literacy across Iceland. The Centre is comprised of the cooperation between various stakeholders, including the Media Commission (awareness centre), the Red Cross (helpline), and the National Police, to create a safer internet for children and the wider public.
