The rules to protect children from seeing illegal or harmful audiovisual content and inappropriate advertising on television also apply to video-sharing platforms, like YouTube. These cover user- generated videos and, for example, advertisements promoting alcohol, tobacco, food and drinks high in fat, salt or sugar. There are also rules on product placement, television advertising and teleshopping in and around children’s programmes. Section § 107c of the Austrian Criminal Code (Federal Law of 23 January 1974 on acts punishable by law, Criminal Code - StGB) addresses cyberbullying and continuous harassment by telecommunication or computer devices. It includes harmful content related to damages to a person’s honour and facts and images shared without consent. The provision was included in the StGB in 2015 and was amended in 2021 by the Hate on the Net Combating Act (HiNBG). In addition, Section 207a addresses CSAM and sexual depiction of minors (Source: Strafgesetzbuch, BIK Policy Monitor 2024).

The Austrian Cybersecurity Strategy 2021 is a strategic framework to ensure cybersecurity in the digital environment and guarantee digital resilience. It has activities targeting digital skills, education and digitalization.

The Austrian Youth Strategy is an ongoing process to strengthen and develop youth policy in Austria. In September 2020, the Austrian Federal Government decided on the joint continuation of the Youth Strategy. Based on the fields of action in the Youth Strategy, each federal ministry has developed Youth Goals backed by specific measures.

The Basic Schools and Upper Secondary Schools Act regulates the organisation of studies of basic schools and upper secondary schools, the rights and duties of students and students’ parents or guardians (hereinafter parents), the rights and duties of school employees, the bases for management and funding of schools, and the bases for administrative supervision over the teaching and education activities of schools.

The Belgium Code of Conduct for Advertising and Marketing Communications to children is a selef-regulatory code that sets guidelines on marketing and advertising directed at children, including digital environments. It addresses manipulative advertising techniques and prohibits content that exploits children's inexperience or credulity. The application of the code is controlled by the Jury for Ethical Practice in Advertising (JEP), the self-regulatory body of the advertising sector in Belgium, which is composed of advertisers, marketing bureaus, media and consumers.

Bill No. 8309 gives effect to the EU Digital Services Act in Luxembourg law, establishing the Concurrence Authority as the national Digital Services Coordinator, defining enforcement mechanisms, and amending existing e-commerce and competition laws to regulate digital platforms.
