Better Internet for Kids: Review of the year 2020

The Better Internet for Kids (BIK) reviews of the year are typically released to coincide with Safer Internet Day celebrations each year.

These annual reports provide an overview of a multitude of stakeholder efforts to both protect and empower children and young people in their digital lives over the past year, when BIK has focused on making sure that young people are protected, respected, and equipped with the skills they need to thrive in the digital world.

This interactive MOOC focuses on raising awareness of ethical, social and cyber security aspects of digital technology. The course includes a video zone for students and an education zone for teachers and lecturers. The video zone includes an introduction where explanation about the concept is given. The introduction is followed by nine thematic sections - AI, internet and law, secure password, IoT, risks to mobile apps security, secure payment, white-hat and black-hat hackers, phone´s lock screen, end-to-end encryption.

ON-LINE ZOO leaflet for parents

The aim of the leaflet is to draw the attention of parents to the book ON-LINE ZOO, which we offer for a free download both in the electronic text form and in the audio version. Especially during the Covid pandemic, the number of children who are active online is growing, as they spend more time at home than before and some even have distance learning there.

Discussion about intellectual property and creativity on the Internet for students in progymnasiums and gymnasiums

During the video conference, participants were invited to discuss and ask questions about intellectual property: patents, trademarks, design and copyright, protection requirements. Students were involved in the creative process and were encouraged to create a short narrative that responded to the issues and content of intellectual property. During the task it was clarified what is needed to make possible actions transparent and legal.

The opportunities provided by the Internet help to obtain the necessary information, get to know the world better, communicate, express one's opinion on various issues, buy goods and services, and use other. At the same time, the Internet misleads us and involves us in various risks and threats. Internet users may be exposed to threats such as data theft, computer viruses, bullying, other illegal and harmful content, e-commerce breaches, and more.
