Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 was celebrated worldwide on 11 February. Together with the partners of the German Safer Internet Centre, klicksafe implemented the motto “No likes for lies! Recognise extremism, populism, and deepfakes online” with a wide range of activities. With our digital school lesson, we were able to educate over 30,000 pupils across Germany about right-wing extremist propaganda and disinformation online. In Berlin, we organised a dialogue panel with pupils, experts, and Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus. In addition to the activities on SID, there were many more activities throughout the month of February. More than 300 campaigns were registered on www.klicksafe.de for Safer Internet Day 2025. In this short article, you will get impressions and an overview of this special day.

Digital school lesson at Media:TURM Ludwigshafen
The Digital school lesson, which was streamed directly into classrooms by schools on Safer Internet Day, was a brand-new offer and a huge success. A total of 842 schools with 1,290 classes took part in this largest school lesson in Germany and were part of Safer Internet Day 2025. This enabled the German SIC to raise awareness of right-wing extremist online strategies among over 30,000 pupils throughout the country. In an interactive and practical way, we illustrated the social impact of manipulative disinformation and what we can do to combat it. Our experts from the German awareness centre klicksafe and the Hotline partner jugendschutz.net provided the pupils with up-to-date knowledge and background information. The digital school lesson was recorded in cooperation with the newspaper Rheinpfalz in the Media:TURM of the Media Authority for Rhineland-Palatinate. Many thanks to the pupils of IGS Ludwigshafen Gartenstadt as well as all pupils and the committed teachers nationwide for their active participation!
