The campaign “Safer and better protected children online in safe schools” was organised in support and in coordination with the Albanian action plan for safety in schools of the Albanian government and the Ministry of Education, which was adopted in December 2024 after the tragic event of the murder of a minor in Tirana by a peer, after a conflict that had arisen on social networks.
The campaign was led by the staff and volunteers of the national children’s hotline – ALO 116 111, in cooperation with CRCA-ECPAT Albania, the national safer internet platform iSIGURT.al, and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Sports, in the framework of the netSMARTkids project, which is supported by the European Commission.

The campaign took place in all 12 regions of Albania, and it involved 170 schools, of which 118 were primary schools, and 52 secondary schools, extending information and awareness activities to cities and rural areas across the country. In total, the campaign spoke directly to 7,421 students, including 3,690 girls and 3,731 boys, and over 680 parents, teachers, psychologists, school security officers and child protection workers.
The reach of the campaign was also reflected in the media, with more than 30 interviews and wide dissemination on social networks, where over 21,000 young people were reached online in the social platforms of the campaign, raising awareness about online safety even further.
The main objective of the campaign is to raise awareness among children and young people on online safety, cyberbullying, as well as reporting to ALO 116 111 and iSIGURT.al. Secondly, the campaign aimed to inform parents and teachers as key actors in protecting children in the digital space.
The campaign will be back in schools after the summer holidays, aiming to reach in total 20,000 children and adolescents across Albania this year alone.
