New #TalkListenLearn topic generator tool helps families start conversations about online behaviours

On the occasion of Safer Internet Day 2022, Webwise launched the #TalkListenLearn campaign for parents and carers, highlighting the importance of having regular and open conversations with children and teenagers to ensure that they have a safe and positive experience online.

A range of resources have been developed to support the campaign, including:

  • The Webwise parent toolkit: a useful toolkit containing resources and materials to help support parents and carers to engage with their children and teenagers’ lives online.
  • The updated Parents’ guide to a better internet: a booklet helping parents and carers ensure their children have a positive experience when they are online. It provides information, advice and conversation starters about the benefits and risks to be aware of when surfing online.
  • Talking Points for Parents: a guide developed by the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel in consultation with 140 other Irish teenagers to help parents and carers start the conversation.

The #TalkListenLearn topic generator

A key feature of the campaign is the #TalkListenLearn topic generator, a new tool designed to help families to have more open conversations about the online world with their children in a fun, non-judgemental way.

It provides families with broad questions to start a conversation about their children’s online experiences, to learn more about the opportunities of the online world, as well as the challenges that may arise and how to seek support.

Three families are at the heart of the campaign, representing the range of topics worth exploring with children and young people, and showing how the topic generator can be a great way to spark conversations.

Access the #TalkListenLearn topic generator on the Webwise website.
