Over the last two years, our Contact Point partners, as well as various actors involved in the protection of minors online and NGOs, have noticed a sharp increase in reports of intimate content involving minors. We must pay attention to the psychological consequences the dissemination of such content can have on victims.
Inspired by the Christchurch Appeal model of cooperation, the President of the French Republic created a Child Protection Laboratory (Le Lab) in 2022. This Laboratory aims to provide a fact-based assessment of initiatives to better protect children in the digital environment. It involves civil society, businesses and governments on an international scale.
One year on, what’s new with the project?
In November 2023, the cornerstone of Le Lab was laid by the French Safer Centre with a two-fold answer: a system comprising a cutting-edge technological response designed and supported by the French hotline Point de Contact and a resource to raise awareness among young people of the non-consensual distribution of intimate content, designed and produced by the French awareness Centre Internet Sans Crainte, with the support of the French helpline 3018.
The DISpositif d'interRUPTion (DISRUPT) is a reporting tool dedicated to intimate content broadcast without consent. It enables online content removal and helps anticipate possible online distribution. The proposed tool generates a content fingerprint using hash technology. Reports can be made anonymously, depending on the user's wishes (for possible follow-up information on the report).
The serious game 'Stop la Violence' (Episode 4) invites teenagers to investigate a secondary school. Teenagers are put in the position of observers of a case of harassment based on the circulation of non-consensual intimate content and invited to look for clues they can collect to understand better how the situation escalated.
