DigiStories: Alex game - Teaching students about online habits

The interactive game is designed for students aged 11 to 15 and allows them to handle issues such as excessive screen time and healthy online habits.
DigiStories: Alex on YouTube.

DigiStories: Alex is an educational video game that opens up the topic of healthy habits in the online environment. The game was published on 10 October 2023 by One World in Schools, a division of the Czech organisation People in Need, part of Czech Safer Internet Centre.

DigiStories: Alex builds on a previous educational video game, DigiStories: Nela, which focused on cyberbullying and healthy online communication. The organisation originally wanted to follow up with a new game on the same topic, but in the end, they listened to the wishes and needs of teachers and leaned towards the topic of healthy online habits and video game playing.

Through an interactive conversation on the fictional social network DigiStories, students can learn in this new videogame about the signs and consequences of problematic behaviours related to the excessive use of digital technologies, in this case in the form of playing an online game.

The DigiStories: Alex educational game is suitable for collective learning in the classroom and allows students to understand the issues through their own experience.

Students play in a role of teenage boy, Alex, who likes to spend time together with his friend, Lea. During an online conversation on the social network DigiStories, he notices Lea is gradually losing control of her screen time. She stays up late and starts to neglect her responsibilities and her loved ones. All this takes a toll on her mental well-being. How is Alex going to handle all this? That is up to the players of the game. The game is recommended for pupils aged 11 to 15.

The game has two ends and it depends only on the pupils' decision how it turns out.

The game is hosted on the portal, where teachers and the general public can find it. Visitors can also look at the game without registration by scrolling down and clicking 'Otevřít hru'.
