Representatives of the Czech Safer Internet Centre recently met with Commissioner Glenn Micallef, and discussed child online safety in the context of the action plan on cyberbullying.
On 16 May 2025, representatives of the Czech Safer Internet Centre (SIC) met in Prague with Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, who is working, among others, on the action plan against cyberbullying, expected to be published in 2026.
The Czech Safer Internet Centre presented the activities it carries out in the areas of education, awareness-raising and research. Regarding the international cooperation, the Czech SIC highlighted the collaboration at the EU level, and the sharing of best practices that occurs in the Insafe, INHOPE networks, as well as with the BIK Coordination team. They also discussed the challenges faced in working effectively with the target group of parents and caregivers, and youth.
In addition, the Czech SIC representatives believe that it is still desirable to strengthen the safety of children on the online platforms. Therefore, the SIC representatives handed over to the Commissioner a specific proposal that, among others, includes the suggestion to classify sending unsolicited explicit content (including AI-generated content) to minors as a crime, a new obligation for large online platforms to establish a mandatory fund, or advertising space, for awareness-raising purposes, and stresses the importance of ensuring that age verification on adult websites is truly effective.
