The Austrian Safer Internet Centre is getting ready for Safer Internet Day 2026

On Safer Internet Day 2026, the Austrian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) will once again draw attention to online safety issues and encourage participation in this day of global celebrations. Activities organised by the SIC to mark the 23rd Safer Internet Day include Safer Internet Month celebrations in February in Austria, the social wall, a digital lesson, and the annual symposium.

For Safer Internet Day 2026, the Austrian Safer Internet Centre is once again calling on all institutions, educational establishments, youth organisations, media outlets and companies in Austria to take part in this day of global celebrations, and organise their own activities on the topic of internet safety.

From references to Safer Internet Day to workshops and webinars, to competitions and online campaigns: there are many ways to participate in SID 2026, and there are no limits to the wealth of ideas. To present the activities to a wide audience, the social wall at www.saferinternetday.at will be available again in 2026: all projects shared on social networks with the hashtag #SID2026AT, together with a photo, will be displayed on the social wall.

For all schools in Austria: February 2026 is Safer Internet Month

In 2026, as many schools as possible throughout Austria are once again encouraged to take part in Safer Internet Day. In cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education, the entire month of February will once again be declared Safer Internet Month. All schools are invited to participate with their own activities and projects, thereby setting an example for greater digital literacy and safety.

Attractive prizes ahead

Attractive prizes await participants: all schools and youth organisations that share their activities on social media with the hashtag #SID2026AT, or submit a photo to www.saferinternetday.at by 11 March 2026, will be entered into a prize draw to win three media packages of their choice worth €500 each, as well as three safer internet workshops sponsored by SIC Austria's long-standing partner A1 Telekom Austria.

Project ideas and templates

Those interested can already start planning their participation in Safer Internet Day and Safer Internet Month in Austria, and find inspiration at www.saferinternetday.at, where schools and all other institutions can find project ideas, lesson plans and interactive learning games. Information, logos and banners for Safer Internet Day 2026 are also available at the same website.

New study on AI (artificial intelligence)

To mark Safer Internet Day, the Austrian Safer Internet Centre is conducting a study on the topic of AI. AI tools such as ChatGPT have become everyday companions, and often serve as the first stop for information and research. How exactly children and young people use these technologies is the subject of the current study, the results of which will be presented on Safer Internet Day 2026.

New: digital lesson on the topic of AI

Under the title "AI & YOU", a digital lesson will take place for the first time on Safer Internet Day in Austria. Schoolchildren are invited to discover the world of artificial intelligence in a playful way via livestream. With the help of interactive surveys, Q&A sessions, and creative group tasks, the opportunities and risks of AI tools will be highlighted, and exciting questions will be answered together: Where does AI make sense – and where does it not? Where do we encounter AI in everyday life without noticing it? And what is behind deepfakes, voice cloning and face morphing? Find more information on the digital lesson here.

Symposium: Safer internet – growing up in the digital world

To mark Safer Internet Day, the Austrian Safer Internet Centre is inviting educators, parents and guardians, multipliers and interested professionals to the 2026 symposium "Growing up in the digital world". The event will take place on 12 February 2026 in Vienna, and offers a varied programme of lectures, workshops and networking opportunities. Interesting facts will be shared not only by renowned media experts, but also by young people themselves: they will take on part of the programme design, and provide practical tips and exciting insights into their digital world. Find more information about the event here.
