One week to go: Get ready for Safer Internet Day 2025!

Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 is one week away! Officially falling on Tuesday 11 February 2025, this year, we are celebrating SID in a fresh new way.

For the first time, SID activities will stretch across the entire month of February, giving schools, organisations, families, and individuals even more chances to join the global movement towards a safer, more inclusive online world.

The theme for this year is "Together for a better internet," which continues to reflect our collective commitment to creating a positive, inclusive digital space.

Why Safer Internet Day matters more than ever

Safer Internet Day has grown into a globally significant event, celebrated in over 180 countries and territories. Originally launched by the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and later embraced by the Insafe network in 2005, SID has come a long way. Over the years, the event has united millions of people worldwide to ensure the internet remains a place of opportunity where children and young people can create, share, and engage positively.

This year, SID will again highlight the European strategy for a better internet for children, known as BIK+ (Better Internet for Kids). Adopted in May 2022, the strategy focuses on the vision that all children in Europe can enjoy age-appropriate digital services, where they are protected, empowered, and respected online. The aim is to empower young people with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the online world safely and responsibly, ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

A new friend is joining the party

A new addition this year is our mascot, Ally. As Ally was designed in collaboration with young people, we believe the mascot represents the values of support and safety and will play a central role in the activities throughout February.
