The Media literacy in Finland policy document aims to clarify the field of media education and describe the strengths, values and principles of media education in Finland. This document also highlights areas for improvement and the related social, cultural and technological development trends.

Finnish Safer Internet Centre coordinated the policy process in collaboration with more than 100 different shareholders and the policy came into effect in 2020. You can read more about the process here: /web/portal/practice/awareness/detail?articleId=5519531

The main focus of Safelyonline project is the improvement of online medialiteracy levels among children and young poeple through the extensive media literacy education of their parents. More concretely, in the framework of this project, Gezinsbond and Child Focus (Belgian Safer Internet Centre) have been offering training to parents about the online media their children use daily. With about 150 training sessions every year, we are able to reach 4,500 parents.

The game “Le juste click” is one of the most demanded/ordered educational tools of Child Focus. There is a lot of interest in working on all the themes related to 'e-safety'. Internet and social media is a world where everything changes quickly. The digital world is no longer a separate world for children and young people, it is their global environment. Media literacy is also gaining in importance within the learning programmemes in education.

Belgian parents are closely involved in the digital education of their children. However, less than half of them know what their children are doing on a daily basis, or how to assist them properly in their first steps on the internet. That's why Google, Child Focus and Test Achat are launching the Cyber Heroes program, which will be brought to Belgian schools by Libraries Without Borders, supported by a 350,000 dollar scholarship.
