Better Internet for Kids

This school year, the community of Kėdainiai kindergarten Pasaka participated in the eTwinning project “Computer and Health. How did I do at home? ” During the implementation of the project activities, we invited the teachers working in the institution to actively participate, creatively organize SID activities, involve parents, try out various IT tools, and share the implemented moments. Video platforms are very popular, even among the youngest.
They are often used from a young age to watch videos of children's songs or cartoons, and at a later age to watch videos of video games, toys, music videos, and humour, by children and teenage Youtubers.

What does climate have to do with digital media and young people?
PT SIC provides in Portuguese a didactic resource with the theme: Digitalization and Climate. Environmental awareness in the digital world.

The use of information technology has profoundly changed the way we see things. We learn, work, interact, and spend our leisure time very differently than we did just a few decades ago.
The consequences of these profound changes cannot be all positive. It is easy to see many benefits in the use of technology, but we know there is another side to this equation, with abuse and illegality.
Cyberbullying, hate speech, grooming, sextortion, identity theft or online fraud are just some of the threats online. This ebook is designed to prepare you for them.

The National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Adolescents, in collaboration with the Council of Europe, has translated into Portuguese a booklet produced by this international organisation in child-friendly language, which contains guidelines for respecting, protecting and fulfilling the rights of the child in the digital environment, and is presented to children and adolescents up to the age of 18.

This publication consists of a guide and a game, both targeted parents, who experience conflict in the household in relation to their children’s use of videogames. The guide provides information on why such conflicts can occur and suggestions for how to handle them. It presents different stories from everyday life where different conflicts around gaming habits are viewed from the perspective of the child/young person.

The activity book contains four sections:

Digital Privacy, which focuses on reducing data traces and understanding online profiling;
Digital Security, with tips on creating strong and secure passwords;
Digital Wellbeing, which deals with the addictive nature of smartphones;
and finally Misinformation, a guide for consuming and sharing information online.

The toolkit is designed for 11 to 16-year-olds who already have their own devices, but it can be used by people of all ages. All you need is a smartphone or a tablet, a printer and something to write with.

During the summer months of 2018, the Cyprus Safer Internet Centre (SIC) held a series of workshops at children's summer camps on the "Creative and safe use of the internet".
During the summer camp workshops, children, counsellors and teachers as well as parents' groups were informed about the opportunities and risks of the internet, as well as the operation of the Helpline and Hotline 1480.

Through exploratory and active learning, the workshop participants had the opportunity to participate in group discussions on the following topics:

Distance learning is considered a useful and effective way to continue education outside the classroom, especially in difficult conditions or emergencies. For parents and guardians, the idea of distance learning is not always clear, so the Cyprus Safer Internet Centre – CyberSafety has prepared, additionally, a poster for parents with 10 Useful Tips that they need to consider in order to ensure that their children feel comfortable and familiar with distance learning.
