Safer Internet Day 2025 in Slovenia was dedicated to generative artificial intelligence, due to how prevalent the topic has become among teachers and educators.
In just a few years, artificial intelligence has evolved from something difficult to imagine to a technology that is now very present in our lives, including the lives of young people who have quickly discovered it for themselves. Teachers are also showing great interest in using it in their schoolwork. However, we do not talk enough about the risks involved, and these were at the centre of activities to mark Internet Safety Day.
As the main event, the Awareness Centre Safe.si organised a conference for teachers and other school staff entitled 'Challenges of artificial intelligence'. On 12 February, more than 180 participants gathered at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana to listen with interest to top-class lecturers. They learned how artificial intelligence works, what impact it has on society, what legal challenges it poses for schools, how it can be used practically in the classroom, and what risks it harbours for young people. Interest in the conference was overwhelming, and places quickly ran out. However, the recordings of the presentations are available and can be viewed by anyone interested in the topic.
As young people are active users of generative artificial intelligence tools, Safe.si organised a webinar for parents on 13 February. A Safe.si employee gave a presentation on the risks of AI for young people. The webinar was watched live by 400 parents on YouTube and had over 1,700 views by the end of February.
The activity pack, which is produced every year, also generated a lot of interest. 422 teachers and other professionals from 339 schools and educational institutions signed up. The activity pack provided them with a variety of materials, including lessons to help them carry out various activities related to artificial intelligence and the safe use of the internet.
Safer Internet Day in Slovenia, with activities throughout February, was a great success and was widely covered by the media in various publications. Artificial intelligence is currently a very interesting and hot topic among young people, teachers, and adults alike. Safe.si's Safer Internet Day activities successfully highlighted all the risks involved and encouraged others to think about the safe use of AI.
