Croatian youth panellist takes part in the Safer Internet Forum 2023

On Thursday, 23 November 2023, led by youth representative Lara, the Croatian Safer Internet Centre participated in the Safer Internet Forum 2023 in Brussels, organised by European Schoolnet on behalf of the European Commission.

Youth representative Lara, an eighteen-year-old student at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Osijek, Croatia was the first youth representative from Croatia to have the opportunity to participate in the Forum, chosen due to their active engagement in Safer Internet Centre Croatia’s youth activities.

A highlight of this year's Forum was the invitation of Ana Radišić – Croatian influencer, podcaster and TV host. Ana is an ambassador of the School of Responsible Influencing, a digital platform developed in cooperation with Safer Internet Centre Croatia and A1 Croatia. Ana had the opportunity to participate in the deep dive programme for online participants, where, alongside other panellists, she discussed the skills that children and young people need to develop to ensure safe and healthy online experiences when watching and creating content.

Participating in the Safer Internet Forum was also an excellent opportunity for the staff of the Croatian Safer Internet Centre to empower and inspire themselves for future work activities. This year's event provided a chance for networking with colleagues from corresponding Safer Internet Centres across Europe and beyond, as well as advocating for changes with decision-makers through a programme designed to genuinely amplify the voices and opinions of young people.

In other news related to the work of Safer Internet Centre Croatia, highlights include that in the first term of the school year (September to December 2023), workshops and lectures have taken place with more than 450 participants. One of the activities conducted was Web detective training, which was organised for primary school students in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior.

In addition, a leaflet on gaming has been created, articles are regularly produced for the centre’s websites (CSI.hr, Sini), and a new podcast has also been launched which will be published once or twice a month in partnership with A1 Croatia. The Safer Internet Centre is also working on improving the School of Responsible Influencing, which will soon be supplemented with additional online modules.

Until the end of the year, the centre will deliver training for the Croatian Office of the Ombudsperson for Children, a conference with the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency, along with various other activities and preparations for Safer Internet Day (SID) 2024, taking place across the globe on Tuesday, 6 February 2024.

Further information about the Croatian Safer Internet Centre can be found on the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) public portal, including links to their national websites and other contact information. Similar information can be found on the BIK portal for all Safer Internet Centres in Europe
