Better Internet for Kids

The study "Perception of cybercrime among pupils at the second level of primary schools" was carried out within the framework of the project "Regions for a Safe Internet", the results of which were presented on Safer Internet Day 2024. The research was carried out  based on cooperation between the Vysoÿina Region and the Police of the Czech Republic. The Cybercrime Perception Survey was initially conducted in 2018 when 50,917 respondents participated and has now been repeated five years later to compare the results.

"The National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Addictions issues the annual Report on Digital Addictions in the Czech Republic, part of which is dedicated to children and adolescents. The report is included in the information package of annual reports on the situation of addiction in the Czech Republic.

The overuse of the Internet and digital technologies affects a relatively large proportion of the population and is the cause of a range of health disorders and adverse impacts on individuals and their surroundings.

This report by the Danish government’s expert group outlines 13 recommendations to regulate Big Tech’s AI development, with a focus on protecting minors. Key proposals include stricter transparency requirements for AI systems targeting children, age-appropriate design principles, and accountability measures for platforms using AI to curate content for underage users. The report emphasizes the need to align AI governance with democratic values and existing EU frameworks like the AI Act and GDPR.

The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study (HBSC) is a forty-year-old international study of the lifestyles and well-being of young people, conducted every four years in most European countries and North America.

The HBSC network currently includes 51 countries/regions. The survey has been conducted in Estonia since 1993. The "Violence on the Internet" survey was carried out  by the Hellenic Center for Safer Internet at FORTH among 4,800 adolescents, under the approval of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports.

The report found that almost half of adolescents have been exposed as observers to cases of violence on the Internet and 13% of adolescents have experienced online violence.

This report examines the findings of KMOP’s survey on children’s online experiences, conducted as part of the CSAPE-Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Education project. The study focuses on the online behaviour, risks, and digital safety awareness of children aged 9 to 12 years in Greece, providing valuable insights into their digital habits and vulnerabilities.

The Use of Technologies by Minors in Spain, Edition 2024 - Data 2023, is a report published the National Observatory of Technology and Society analysing the relationship between minors and digital technologies, considering various demographic factors including gender, age, region, and household income.

This report "Digital Technologies in Education: Ireland in International Context" published by Ireland's Educational Research Centre (ERC) in 2022, found that Ireland was “substantially” below the EU and OECD averages on measures of student digital technology use for learning – both inside and outside the school. This is attributed in part to the lack of technical and training supports for teachers and for schools.

This report presents a feasibility study conducted by MEDLiE (Media Literacy and Education Research Group) at NTNU to explore how to measure media and information literacy (MIL) across the Nordic countries. It reviews existing frameworks, analyses methodologies, and offers recommendations for developing a standardized Nordic MIL‑index with validated indicators.

Host project: Swedish Media Council and the media authorities in Norway, Denmark and Iceland.

The Austrian-wide UNDER18 program, run by the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, aims to prevent youth crime through primary prevention efforts. Since its inception, it has reached approximately 128,000 pupils, parents, and teachers, with over 430 trained youth-prevention officers delivering the program.
