What is sexting and how do you talk about it with your child?

Sexting is a contraction of the words “sex” and “texting”, referring to the exchange of messages, pictures or videos of a sexual nature through a digital medium. Exchanging sexual images or messages is a way of experimenting with sexuality, at any time and at any age. So sexting can be part of healthy sexual development, where young people fully test and shape their (sexual) identity.

EDUbox: sexting

The rise of digital media has turned our love and sex lives upside down. While we used to send each other love letters and red roses, today we prefer to do sexting to show our feelings. But what exactly is sexting? Why is it booming among young people? And doesn't sending spicy photos carry all kinds of risks?

Target group: young people (13-18 years)

The EDUbox Sexting guides students through the world of digital flirting and explains that sometimes things can also go wrong.

The EDUbox Sexting consists of 5 parts:

Child Focus launches ‘CyberSquad’ workshop for teachers

Child Focus has developed a new and enriching curriculum to make CyberSquad more familiar to young people. This workshop is specially designed for teachers who want to support young people in the online world.

Their mission is to reassure young people and show them that they are not alone. CyberSquad is not only there to ask for help, it is also a place to help each other. There are also coaches from Child Focus who are there for them.

Child Focus kids website

Child Focus' kids website is an attractive, easy-to-use and informative child-sized website. Children can get to know more about the organisation and the mission promoted by Child Focus.

They can find information about the organisation Child Focus, stories about children who have been helped by Child Focus, explanation about the mission of Child Focus, how they can look for a MAX, an adult confidant, and how to surf safely online.
We dedicated an entire island to games that help children become media savvy and navigate the internet more safely in a playful way.

Trainings on hate speech and online human rights

Within the scope of the Portuguese Safer Internet Centre, with the support of the European Union, and continuing the actions of the 'No hate speech' movement in Portugal, Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) has been implementing several training sessions and awareness-raising actions on hate speech and alternative narratives, as well as human rights online.

In this context, IPDJ organised this training action, in a free, face-to-face format, which took place at its headquarters in Lisbon, in collaboration with Amnesty International Portugal, which certified the event.
