Better Internet for Kids

When children and young people struggle to put their phone away, it doesn’t necessarily mean they lack self-control; it’s more about technology that is deliberately designed to capture and hold their attention. Lithuania marked Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026 with a month-long programme of activities bringing together schools, libraries, policymakers and young people across the country. Through contests, educational events and community activities, the initiative itself reached over 250 000 people, while media coverage extended its message to many more.

In 2025, EU co funded hotlines received over 4.5 million reports of potentially illegal online content, highlighting both the scale of online harms reported by the public and the essential role hotlines play in identifying and addressing them.

Safer Internet Day 2026 was celebrated in Croatia on 10 February, with activities taking place throughout February as part of the Safer Internet Month. The Croatian Safer Internet Centre (SIC), implemented by the Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, organised a wide range of educational activities, awareness campaigns and events aimed at promoting safe and responsible internet use among children, young people, parents and professionals.

The Insafe network of helplines collects data about the calls received and is analysed every three months in order to look at possible trends and emerging issues.

The Slovenian Safer Internet Centre has successfully concluded Safer Internet Month 2026. More than 20,000 children and teenagers participated in the main activity, "Internet safety month for schools," carrying out various activities in February related to the main theme of Safer Internet Day in Slovenia, "Young consumers on the internet."
