Better Internet for Kids

For Safer Internet Day this year, klicksafe published two new materials on the SID focus topic “AI and me. In an artificial relationship”: a comprehensive lesson material developed in cooperation with FSM including six projects for use in classroom, and a brochure for parents with important tips and support on AI in everyday family life: "My child and AI. Growing up with artificial closeness". Both materials are now available in print and digitally (in German).

The Estonian Safer Internet Centre, together with different stakeholders, organised various awareness-raising activities and thematic resources for children, parents, teachers and other professionals working with children, including events, conferences and a competition.

This year’s Safer Internet Day was marked by meaningful conversations, peer learning, and youth engagement. By creating a space for open dialogue, the initiative encouraged participants to reflect on their online experiences and think more critically about the digital environment they navigate every day.

In Cyprus, Safer Internet Day 2026 was marked with a wide range of activities organised by the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute in collaboration with the Safer Internet Centre and its partners under the theme “Together for a better internet.”

In France, Safer Internet Day was coordinated by Internet Sans Crainte, part of the French Safer Internet Centre, and mobilised schools, public authorities, civil society organisations and private partners to promote safer and more responsible digital practices among young people. The 2026 campaign focused on young people’s digital wellbeing.

The Slovak Safer Internet Centre celebrated SID 2026 by involving students, by organising a conference for experts, one for children and parents, and a contest.

SID celebrations in the Netherlands focused on the theme “Harmful but lawful content”, as the Dutch Safer Internet Centre increasingly sees how content and behaviour that sit in the grey area, not necessarily illegal, but harmful, go unaddressed, despite posing real risks to children and young people.

On 4 March 2026, the Croatian Safer Internet Centre opened its fourth office, located in Pula. The office opened its doors in the largest city in Istria with the aim of strengthening the protection of children and young people in the digital environment.

The discussion was held on 3 February 2026 as part of safer internet month, and focused on two themes: how digital media affects democratic dialogue, and how online hate and threats limit young people’s engagement. The aim was for young people to gather around, discuss and find solutions.

A new study “Generative artificial intelligence in a Polish school. Paving the way” conducted among Polish teachers by NASK found that, while the majority of teachers are concerned that young people using generative AI will become addicted to it, there are also important benefits to consider.
