Fun and games to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2022
However, SID activities did not only include professional lectures. The winners of last year’ video competition were invited and they could take part in other internet security games under the guidance of mentors. The mentors were Dr. Csaba Krasznay, head of the Institute of Cybersecurity, University of Public Service, Zsombor Fekete, game designer and sociologist, Péter Kovács, Google Hungary, representing Youtube in Hungary, István Nagy and Zoltán Sterner from ICSS and SIC educators and trainers. The invited children were distributed in five teams and played five games based on the modules of the Be Internet Awesome educational resource.
First of all, the participants had to answer fifteen questions as quickly as possible using Kahoot!. The competition was then followed by a discussion game, where more serious topics such as what young people think the ideal online world should look like, whether they perceive the virtual world as a real one and what they would identify as the main cyberthreats. This discussion was then followed by a poster-making activity. The fourth game consisted for the five teams in continuing a story and then acting it out by taking into consideration various aspects. The last game was an escape game, where the children had to solve different logical problems to open the box containing their certificates for the day. The interactive games were a huge success, and the participants seemed really amused.
Another success story is that of one student from the Hungarian Youth Panel, who is regularly taking part in competitions organised by the ICSS and receiving scholarship, thus keeping in close contact with the Hungarian SIC. She is continuing her studies in film and media and was contacted by local television channel Zugló TV, which reported on SID events with her and another group of students.
