Guided by the success of previous years, the Safer Internet Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated Safer Internet Day through a competition for primary and secondary school students on internet safety. The competition consisted of an online quiz with questions about the safe use of the internet and digital technologies. The quiz was only active on Safer Internet Day itself, after which the application system generated quiz winners among children who answered correctly on 80 per cent or more questions. Winners and prizes were published on the website www.sigurnodijete.bat, and the project’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Additionally, access to the quiz was coded to protect the children's data, and the winners were announced under unique codes.
To ensure that all children within Bosnia and Herzegovina had equal opportunity to participate, the call was disseminated to all Ministries of Education and directly to 1,686 elementary and 312 high schools. The country’s media also supported the initiative and used the opportunity to educate the public on the safe use of digital technologies.
Representatives from the Safer Internet Centre offered statements to various media (TV, radio stations and printed media) to support the celebrations, before, during and after the day. In addition, other local entities and district police units also disseminated information on the day and encouraged children to use digital technologies safely. A special letter was prepared for partners and companies to ensure their inclusion in this event, and to gather as many prizes as possible. With the support of sponsors and friends of the Safer Internet Centre, 80 prizes were made available for children, helping to amplify Safer Internet Day messages.
