Back to school in Portugal: national digital campaign against cyberbullying

Through synergies resulting from the Cabinet of the Portuguese Minister of the Presidency and the National Cybersecurity Centre, and within the Portuguese Safer Internet Centre, a national digital campaign against cyberbullying was launched in Portugal in autumn 2025.

The campaign highlights the effects of digital violence among peers and focuses on promoting empathy, active reporting, and responsible intervention. As part of the back‑to‑school period, the campaign aims to raise awareness among citizens, and especially young people, about their role in building more supportive and safe communities, objectively showing the real impact of cyberbullying on victims’ lives and on the ecosystem of school communities.

Under the motto: “Cyberbullying: respect also applies online / Together, we can say NO to cyberbullying”, the initiative calls on children and young people, parents, caregivers, teachers, educators, and the wider community to pay greater attention to this phenomenon, while promoting awareness, prevention, knowledge and dissemination of support channels available, as well as intervention, fostering a culture of cybersecurity.

With this initiative, there was also opportunity to widely share the European Commission Action plan against cyberbullying´s public consultation, as well as the EU Children’s Participation Platform´s online survey for children and young people on the same subject.
