About the organisation
International Forum of Solidarity – EMMAUS was established in 1999 with the aim of providing assistance to vulnerable population groups. It represents one of the largest NGOs in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) that operates within the whole country. IFS-EMMAUS has established and operates the first Safer Internet Centre in BiH for reporting, awareness raising and education of children and the general BiH public on online child abuse and exploitation, consisting of four components: hotline, helpline, information centre and youth panel. The centre implements a comprehensive programme on the prevention of online child abuse and exploitation through digital technologies in cooperation with the ministries, law enforcement agencies, institutions and organisations.
Through participation in the SIC+ Programme, the International Forum of Solidarity – EMMAUS aims to strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange with other Safer Internet Centres, enhance the quality and impact of its services, and further develop its expertise in addressing emerging online risks. It also looks forward to contributing to joint European initiatives, sharing good practices, and benefiting from capacity-building opportunities, training and collaborative activities across the network.
Awareness centre
The Safer Internet Centre Bosnia and Herzegovina implements year-round awareness-raising activities that promote the safe, responsible, and positive use of digital technologies. Activities include educational workshops, public campaigns, webinars, media outreach, stakeholder engagement and the annual celebration of Safer Internet Day.
Future plans include continued awareness initiatives addressing emerging online risks, digital literacy, AI-related challenges and online child protection.
Helpline
The Safer Internet Centre Bosnia and Herzegovina operates a dedicated helpline that provides advice, guidance, and support to children, young people, parents, educators, and other adults on online safety issues. The service addresses concerns such as cyberbullying, privacy, harmful content, online relationships and digital wellbeing.
Future plans include strengthening outreach, improving service accessibility and enhancing cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
Hotline
The Safer Internet Centre Bosnia and Herzegovina operates a national hotline for reporting illegal and harmful online content, with a particular focus on child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and other forms of online child exploitation. The hotline works closely with relevant national authorities and international partners to facilitate timely assessment and referral of reports.
Future plans include further strengthening reporting mechanisms, cooperation frameworks and public awareness of the service.
Youth participation
The Safer Internet Centre Bosnia and Herzegovina actively promotes youth participation through its Youth Panel, enabling young people to contribute to awareness-raising activities, consultations, campaigns, and discussions on online safety and digital rights. Youth perspectives are integrated into the Centre’s work and outreach efforts.
Future plans include expanding opportunities for youth engagement, peer-to-peer initiatives and participation in national and international activities.
