Better Internet for Kids

In the guidelines for high school children, we bring recommendations from experts about sharenting, online challenges, responsible gaming, online sexual harrasment, which behaviors can be a warning sign that a child is a victim or a perpetrator of violence. The guidelines also contain advice for parents as well as for teachers, and instructions are given regarding handling in the case of electronic violence.

Latvian SIC has developed a set of board games and activities in a printable format for children about internet safety inviting teachers, parents and families to play with children during summer camps and school brakes, also on weekends and within informal classroom events. Children can play games also with friends and classmates and learn online safety in a fun and engaging way.

Teachers and parents should print the games and organize competitions or wider activities between children at home or in classroom or during school lessons.

Spoofy teaches children about the dangers of the internet, safer online behavior, and other topics related to the use of smart technology. The game is inclusive, educational, and free. It is available online and to be downloaded as an app. Additionally, supporting materials are prepared for parents and teachers that introduce the game and provide lesson plans for education.

Description: Phishing is the leading type of online fraud in terms of amount of losses. The scale of phishing has been growing significantly for the past few years, at more than 30 percent annually. The increase was driven by the pandemic, which significantly increased the number of internet users and their activities online, the methods used by fraudsters have improved.
The flyer introduces phishing: exampes of phishing using various apps and e-services, social engineering, advices to recognize phishing and avoid losses.

• Reassure children that they don't have to be afraid to share what happened to them online.
• Be interested in children and their activities on the Internet from an early age.
• Do not take pictures of naked children or post pictures of your children on the Internet.
• Explain to the children that they should not share their login information with anyone and to choose strong passwords.
• Explain to the children that not everything on the Internet is unequivocally true.

It can really appeal to all children and young people for whom the online world is a common and now essential part of life. An engaging video is a quick and safe way to get initial information on what to expect when children are in trouble.
