Better Internet for Kids

The reporting platform Point de Contact has published its 2022 annual report on the volume of reports received and processed as well as on the trends observed in cybercrime. This report is also an opportunity to highlight the work carried out throughout the year 2022 : activities, projects and awareness-raising.
Here are some key figures: 36 169 received in 2022, 8 806 URLs qualified as sexual exploitation of minors and 9 470 URLs were forwarded to law enforcement authorities.

“Jeunes connectés : bien informés,mieux protégés !” (Young people online: well informed, better protected!) - on 2023, alongside its local partners Génération Numérique and L'Ecole Marianne, Point de Contact launched a series of seven videos about illegal content and online risks. It adresses 6 main topics : online hate, child prostitution, cyber-bullying, shocking and extreme contents, fake news, and pornography.

On October 18th, 2023, Point de Contact published the 3rd edition of the White Paper relating to the processing of reports of illicit content and the protection of professionals in the Trust & Safety sector.

This constantly growing collection of teaching examples provides teachers with suggestions on how they can work on various digital topics with their students. Teaching examples on the topics of AI and internet fraud are currently available. These provide teachers with input on how they can actively use new tools such as ChatGPT and discuss them with their students and how they can sensitise young people to internet fraud, phishing, malware and fake shops.

1. Children's online safety
With Inspector Małgorzata Sokołowska (know online as @z_pamietnika_policjantki) , a representative of the Advisory Council of Parents at NASK, and Anna Słupska, a psychologist working within NASK's Cyberprophylaxis, we discuss the safety of children and teenagers on the internet. We address the most pressing topic of recent weeks - child grooming (seduction of a child, for example, on the internet) - to debunk myths, increase awareness of threats, and encourage preventive conversations with children.

The International Conference 'Keeping Children and Young People Safe Online' is the largest regular event in Poland concerning children's online safety. It is targeted at representatives of educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, public administration, the judiciary, and the internet sector.

The conference organizers are the Polish Safer Internet Centre (PCPSI), which is formed by the NASK National Research Institute and the Empowering Children Foundation.

Brochure for parents and teachers addressing the topic of grooming. The informational guide provides insights into questions such as: What does this process entail? How can one proactively prevent potentially harmful contacts? Where should concerns about such behaviors be reported?

The educational materials not only focus on promoting the idea of friendship but also shape the social skills necessary for building lasting relationships. Through lesson scenarios based on the PBL methodology, students have the opportunity to explore various social situations, developing empathy, communication skills, and conflict resolution abilities. Furthermore, podcasts and posters provide additional tools for reflecting on the essence of friendship and inspire action towards building positive social bonds and reinforcing valuable relationships.

1. The School of the Future, Which We Don't Know Yet - dr Jędrzej Witkowski
In the course of the presentation, the speaker delved into the type of education needed for the future, a future that was progressively harder to foresee. They began by exploring the trends shaping education and pondered how schools could relate to them, aiming to aptly respond to the needs and aspirations of young individuals, parents, and teachers. The focus was on what schools should have taught, how the students' school experience should have looked, and what role teachers should have played.

During the webinars, representatives of this panel participated alongside adult experts. Each session was hosted by Kasia Rodek from Radio Kampus, which sponsored these events.

1. Talking about Relationships - aired on 22.11.2022:
Addressing the impact of online relationships on school relationships among students and between students and teachers. It also discusses the issues related to the use of screen devices in school, covering the benefits and problems arising from different approaches (lack of regulations, clearly defined rules of use, total prohibition).
