Background
The International Day of Happiness was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 12, July 2012. The aim was to recognise the pursuit of happiness as an existential goal, encourage a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth and promote sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and well-being.
This decision was initiated by Buthan, a country that has understood the value of national happiness over national income since 1970. Since then, this special day has been celebrated with various events, campaigns, and initiatives promoting happiness and well-being worldwide.
Better Internet for Kids for International Day of Happiness
Our mission is to ensure a safe and happier online environment for children and young people. Today and throughout the year, we promote digital literacy and online safety and encourage the youth to cultivate kindness and respect online. We believe equipping children and young people with the skills and knowledge to navigate online contributes to their happiness and well-being.

- The German Safer Internet Centre created a brochure that explains the phenomena associated with unrealistic beauty ideals on the internet and provides practical ways to reduce their pressure and improve their well-being.
- The Polish Safer Internet Centre organised a series of webinars with experts for students aged 13-17. The webinars cover topics related to online safety and well-being, the impact of online relationships on school dynamics, the positive aspects of gaming, and guidance on starting online creative ventures.
- If you or another young person struggles with well-being issues online, contact your national helpline for further information, guidance and support. Helplines provide information, advice and assistance to children, youth, and parents in dealing with harmful content, contact and conduct.
