Fiji celebrates Safer Internet Day for the first time

For the very first time, Safer Internet Centre Fiji hosted the 17th edition of Safer Internet Day (SID) on Tuesday, 11 February 2020, together with over 170 countries across the globe.

Safer Internet Centre Fiji was one of the very few countries in the Pacific region to lead the SID celebrations. Its commitment to the SID initiative is to empower and protect children and teenagers from risks associated with online activities. Its aim was to to ensure access to a safe online environment and inspire a national discussion about using technology responsibly, respectfully and creatively.

Since its establishment three years ago, Safer Internet Centre Fiji has continuously established partnership with regional and global societies and organisations to shape and create a trustworthy internet ecosystem for everyone.

Safer Internet Centre Fiji Coordinator, Elvin Prasad said that SID has become a very important event on the online safety calendar and there are plans to make this event a whole week of internet safety awareness-related celebrations in the future, an "Internet Safety Week" which will bring more people and stakeholders together. "We invite you to join this cause and play your part, let's join forces across the globe and work together to make the internet much safer and trustworthy," he added.

Safer Internet Day 2021 will take place on Tuesday, 9 February 2021 when, once again, we'll come "Together for a better internet".
