Croatia celebrates the first anniversary of the counselling centre in Zagreb with the launch of the "Take It Down" tool

Digital threats remain a pressing concern in today’s society, as confirmed by data collected by the Croatian Safer Internet Centre (SIC). In 2024 alone, calls to the Croatian helpline increased by an alarming 110 per cent. Growing issues such as sextortion, dangerous online challenges, and digital violence demand swift and effective responses. To address these, A1 Croatia and SIC Croatia marked #BetterOnline Day by presenting Take It Down - a tool designed to support underage victims of online sexual extortion.

The presence of explicit content online can be deeply frightening and traumatic, especially for young people. With the innovative Take It Down tool, minors can regain control over their digital identity and reduce the harmful consequences of sexual extortion. This is a significant step forward in combating online abuse, offering victims the chance to remove unauthorised content. Every victim deserves support and protection.
We encourage anyone who has experienced the non-consensual sharing of intimate photos to contact the Safer Internet Centre via the anonymous helpline 0800 606 606 for help, advice, and support - and to report it to the police

emphasised Tomislav Ramljak, Head of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and SIC Croatia.

The Take It Down platform, developed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), enables minors to request the removal of non-consensually shared intimate content from a wide range of online platforms. SIC Croatia and A1 Croatia translated and adapted the tool for local use, making it available in Croatian. With this initiative, Croatia joins a global movement to strengthen the protection of children’s privacy in the digital environment.

We are proud to have participated in the translation and adaptation of this tool, making it accessible to our citizens. In addition to offering direct help to victims, Take It Down introduces a new layer of protection for children and youth online. Our collaboration with the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children continues to inspire us to improve mechanisms for safeguarding the most vulnerable in the digital world.

As part of #BetterOnline Day, the first anniversary of the SIC counselling centre in Zagreb was also celebrated. The event highlighted the SIC’s achievements and presented activities conducted under the #BetterOnline project during the past year.

At A1 Croatia, we believe the digital world can—and must—be a safe space for all users, especially children and young people. As a telecom provider enabling internet access, we are aware not only of its benefits but also of its challenges. That’s why we’ve worked with the Safer Internet Centre for over a decade to raise awareness about responsible digital behaviour and to develop tools that offer real support to users. The #BetterOnline platform is one of the ways we pursue this goal—through education, prevention, and innovative solutions that foster a safer digital environment.
The past year brought significant progress, including the opening of the SIC counselling centre in Zagreb, the organization of the CyberGuard conference, and the launch of #BOB—a digital assistant chatbot that helps users navigate the internet more safely. Online safety is a shared responsibility, and at A1 Croatia, we remain committed to providing solutions that help users protect their privacy and stay safe online. We will continue to invest and collaborate to make the digital world better and safer for everyone.

said Dejan Turk, CEO of A1 Croatia and A1 Slovenia.
