Alert Online campaigning activities in the Netherlands

October is the European Cybersecurity Month. During that month, the Alert Online initiative, organised by ECP Platform for Information Society, aims to raise awareness of online security and encourage more cybersecure behaviour.

Alert Online organises this campaign together with partners - they have organised events, training or exercises to encourage a more cyber-secure online behaviour and brought it to the attention of employees, customers and the immediate surroundings.
Various activities were organised during Cybersecurity Month, with more than 370 partners: from cyber exercises to master classes, from webinars to social media campaigns.

We kicked off Cybersecurity Month 2023 with the Alert Online kick-off in The Hague City Hall. Here, the Cybersecurity research Alert Online 2023 was presented, Hackshield launched the Cyber Heroes project and the concept of the digital first responder was explained. We also presented the Pub Quiz 2023 from Alert Online and the first aid kits for digital first responders were distributed.

In addition to all the above, the Woensdag Ongehacktdag campaign is a social media campaign that has its focus in October.
“Gehakt” is the Dutch word for meatloaf, and it is traditionally eaten on Wednesday. Gehakt in Dutch sounds like “gehackt” (meaning hacked). Therefore,Veilig internetten and Alert Online renamed Wednesday as “Ongehacktdag” (the “Not Hacked Day”): every Wednesday, a new tip or blog entry was posted about passwords and 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication), secure logins, or password managers.

A video for this campaign was also made with young actors using young people's slang.
