Better Internet for Kids

A short informative material with advices for parents to set ap a child’s computers or smart device for use during remote learning. 

Firstly, it is recommended that the child creates a separate user account to help limit access to information that is inappropriate for their age. 

These Safer Internet Day PowerPoint Presentations aim to provide context to the aim and purpose of Safer Internet Day; an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. These are designed for use with 1st and 2nd class, 3rd and 4th class, and 5th and 6th class. The presentations can be delivered by school leaders or teachers at a whole school assembly. They include some warmer activities that can be used with young people to introduce them to the topic of online safety.

In this online safety webinar, Mark Smyth, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, provided advice to parents on Empowering Healthy Online Behaviour in Younger Children.

This lesson has been developed to help students understand the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020 and the legal consequences of it for young people. This lesson is intended to be appropriate for the 3rd to 5th year demographic (post-primary).

Webwise have created two new additional lessons to the 3rd & 4th Class edition of the HTML Heroes Online Safety Education Programme:

• Lesson 9. Chatting online
• Lesson 10. Playing online. 

These additional lessons are designed to complement the original lessons of the programme where the online safety themes and topics covered could be used as a follow on from the original lessons. 

The CAC, UPF and six organisations from European countries offer schools a test to evaluate the skills of pupils aged 14 to 18 in media and digital literacy

The Garda Primary Schools Programme is delivered to all classes in primary school level. Gardaí visit each class at least once every academic year and use these visits to engage with children and deliver key safety advice. Be Kind Online, developed in partnership with Webwise is designed to enable 3rd and 4th class pupils to understand what cyberbullying is, how it can hurt someone and how it can be prevented. The lessons in this pack promote respectful communication online and aim to foster a sense of care and respect for others online.

Connect with Respect, developed in partnership with Webwise addresses the topic of cyberbullying, and aims to try to prevent this behaviour from happening and to empower pupils to respond effectively if cyberbullying and harassment does occur. 

The lesson is designed to help students at the Junior end of post-primary, between the ages of 12-14, to understand the impact of their actions and that it may in fact constitute cyberbullying and online harassment.
