The seminar, held on September 26, 2024 as part of the “Back to School” day, offered an opportunity to engage students and the wider school community in a journey of exploration, reflection, and debate on the Digital Services Act (DSA), the new EU regulation designed to govern digital platforms and online services, with a particular focus on the protection and rights of young people online.
The event provided a detailed analysis of the measures introduced by the DSA, explaining how they could protect minors from harmful content, manipulative advertising, and misuse of personal data.
Participants also examined the obligations imposed on large platforms to assess specific risks for young people and to implement preventive measures, thereby improving the overall safety of the digital environment. In addition, the webinar addressed the DSA’s restrictions on the use of minors’ data for advertising, prohibiting profiling of young users for commercial purposes and protecting them from misleading or manipulative messages.
Learning objectives
- To understand the key measures of the DSA and their impact on the protection and rights of young people online.
- To analyse the responsibilities of digital platforms and how these affected the safety of younger users.
- To explore the opportunities for teachers, parents, and guardians to use monitoring tools to safeguard young people’s online experience.
Speakers
- Giuliano De Luca – SIC legal expert
- Davide Gallino – AGCOM
- Youth Panel Italia
