“Digital Brilliant” (in Danish: Digital Genial) is an online toolbox that consists of exercises targeted parent-teacher meetings in 1st -6th grade. The purpose is to shed light on the children’s online life and the general digital wellbeing in the specific school class. The resource encourages a dialogue where experiences and knowledge are being shared, which can support the collaboration on digital topics between the parents and between the parents and the teachers.
The exercises in “Digital Brilliant” are designed to start up conversations among the parents. There is a total number of 20 exercises. Each takes 10 to 25 minutes to complete, and the teacher can chose to do just one exercise or if they have more time at hand, they can combine a number of exercises for a digital theme at the parent-teacher meeting. The teachers’ primary role is to facilitate the exercises and motivate a positive and involving dialogue. Some exercises contain videos with experts, who shares knowledge and recommendations that can be discussed at the meeting. Others exercises are digital dilemmas that parents can relate to and reflect on. A few physical exercises require the parents to get on the floor, and to express their views and share personal opinions. Most of the exercises can also be applied at meetings where both parents and children participate. Finally, some exercises are workshops, where parents and children can come together on topics like image sharing, online gaming, and faceless communication and the value of emojis.
“Digital Brilliant” is developed by The Media Council for Children & Young People in co-operation with Save the Children Denmark and Centre for Digital Youth Care. The project is supported by Facebook, The Tele Industry, Telenor, The phone company 3, Telia, The Toy Industry, Microsoft, Stofa/SE and TDC Group.
