Report on Childhood and Adolescence in Digital Environments

This study, carried out by the Orange Foundation and Save the Children Spain, provides qualitative and quantitative research findings regarding the interaction of children and adolescents with digital spaces. It explores technology's impact on emotions, identified opportunities and risks, and the pervasive influence of Artificial Intelligence. The study also examines protective measures and the diverse perspectives of experts, parents, and young people themselves on navigating the digital world safely and effectively. The report highlights the collective responsibility in safeguarding young users, while outlining challenges and potential solutions across regulatory, technological, educational, and familial spheres. The report found that children and adolescents have a natural and pervasive relationship with digital technologies, but this interaction brings significant risks and challenges. The digital environment is mainly associated by youths with virtual social activities, entertainment, and learning, facilitated by devices like smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles. The main opportunities identified include communication, personal development, rapid information access, social connection, and educational benefits.
