Looking for interesting ideas and ways to improve children´s digital competence. One example: online advent calendar

An advent calendar doesn’t have to feature only pictures or chocolate; it can also be a fun tool for learning. For the past four years, Estonian Union for Child Welfare (EUCW) have published an online advent calendar for children, which can be used at home or in school. It includes 24 windows containing helpful tips and interactive tasks that guide children step by step toward becoming more digitally competent. Solving these tasks takes no more than 15 minutes, ensuring that children do not spend excessive time in front of screens.

Estonian hotline presented its work at a cooperation seminar

Every year on November 18, the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence, the Estonian Hotline conducts an online campaign aimed at drawing public attention to the right of children to be protected from sexual abuse.

Cooperation at national level

Estonian SIC Advisory Board is a fine tool to strengthen cooperation between different stakeholders at national level. At the moment 14 agencies and organisations are represented in the Advisory Board. The members of the board which are from the public and private sector as well as from civil society contributes to the implementation of the Estonian SIC activities with their knowledge and experience.

Training for middle schools: Hype on the net - stay informed and secure!

This training addresses the everyday life of young people and covers current important topics such as pornography, artificial intelligence, challenges,... Using practical case studies, participants are sensitized in a playful and interactive manner.

The students embark on Dennis' desk – a place full of exciting discoveries. Behind the various objects, different topics are hidden, which are worked on in a variety of ways. The focus is particularly on current risks in the digital world.

Further training: Focus on safety: from AI basics to practical application

Participants receive a comprehensive overview of the development of artificial intelligence, learn how it is integrated into a wide range of tools and applications and have a discussion with other participants about AI in schools, the associated risks for children and young people and how to deal with them. During the further training, participants will have the opportunity to actively work with AI tools and experience their functions first-hand.
