In 2024, INHOPE’s network of EC co-funded hotlines responded to the highest volume of reports recorded to date, highlighting both the scale of the challenge and the vital role hotlines play in tackling online child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The most recent helpline data covers the period from October to December 2024. There were over 12,500 contacts made to the network which is a slight reduction on the previous reporting period.
43 per cent of contacts came from individuals identifying as male with 45 per cent from teens (12-18 years old) and 23 per cent from 5–12-year-olds, which represents an increase of 15 percentage points when compared to the previous reporting period.
To further enhance digital security and provide faster access to reliable information, Safer Internet Center Croatia and A1 Hrvatska d.o.o., in collaboration with Delta Reality, have introduced #BOB – an AI assistant designed to offer online safety advice. This innovative tool was unveiled at the event “The role of modern tools in child safety” on 11 February 2025, in Zagreb, as part of SID 2025 celebration.
In 2024, the Czech helpline handled a large volume of crisis intervention services, once again over 100,000 contacts (110,147) - mostly by phone. The increase in contacts related to particularly challenging topics was around 20 per cent (suicidal topics + 23 per cent (5869), self-harm +18 per cent (4725)). The crisis helpline does not receive funding from the state.
The guide Educating for digital Awareness between the ages of 5 and 8: educational paths for teachers and parents is designed for both teachers and parents, as digital challenges and children's rights in the connected world are a shared responsibility of the entire community. Consistent messages are needed to help children grow into digital citizens who are aware of their rights and capable of using online technologies responsibly and critically.
The 22nd annual edition of Safer Internet Day (SID) took place on Tuesday, 11 February 2025 with a campaign slogan, once again, of "Together for a better internet".
In a world where children grow up constantly connected to the digital world, online bullying no longer needs the schoolyard to manifest itself. It can sneak into a child's room, their phone, their private space. The data recently presented by the organization Save the Children on the occasion of Internet Safety Day 2025 raise alarm bells about the extent and seriousness of this phenomenon.
As recognised by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), every child has the right to access information, express themselves, and participate in society. This is further elaborated in General Comment No.
