SID 2026

Safer Internet Day 2026 will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, with events and activities taking place throughout the entire month across Europe and around the world.
As every year, SID will bring together schools, organisations, families, policymakers, and global partners to promote a safer and better digital world for children and young people.
The official theme for this edition has not yet been announced, so stay tuned!

What Is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day (SID) is a global initiative that promotes safer, more responsible, and more positive use of digital technologies.
What began as a European project has now grown into a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Launched by the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken forward by the Insafe network in 2005, it is now celebrated in more than 180 countries and territories worldwide.
Its goal is simple: to work together to ensure that children and young people can explore and enjoy the online world safely, confidently, and creatively.

What to expect in 2026

Recent months have seen lots of progress in the online safety landscape, with the launch of the Digital Services Act (DSA) guidelines on the protection of minors online, consultations towards preparing an action plan against cyberbullying, and the 2025 State of the Union Address by the President of the European Commission which placed a specific focus on empowering parents in the digital age. All of these issues are likely to be key topics of focus during the 2026 celebrations.
