A Look back at Safer Internet Day 2024 in the Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, Safer Internet Day 2024 was celebrated in a positive spirit, highlighting the many opportunities of the internet and technology rather than just pointing out the risks.

The handbook "The first mobile"

In cooperation with the Czech Republic Police and leading mobile operators, we created the "First Mobile" handbook for parents who plan to buy their children's first smartphone. You can download it here.

A new resource on first mobile use was created

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a buzzword in recent years, describing a technology with the potential to bring fundamental changes to our professional and personal lives. As with the arrival or expansion of every innovation, it is essential to consider the quality and uses of AI to our everyday lives. Artificial intelligence brings not only creativity, innovation, new ideas, and algorithms of procedures and processes but also challenges, questions and risks. This is why safety and education have played such a vital role since the beginning of AI.

The new resource, Ten AI recommendations, provides a summary of AI's main advantages and risks. The leaflet aims to highlight the use of AI tools as a ‘good servant’ in several aspects: for example, AI can help with the discovery, creation or search of something new in a scope, form and timeframe that was previously unimaginable. At the same time, however, we must be aware that in the wrong hands, any AI technology can become an ‘evil master’ or a tool that can be misused to commit criminal activity.

Children's book "Guardians of the internet"

A new, upcoming resource – a book for children aged nine and upwards, titled Guardians on the internet, was also previewed on the occasion of SID. The book comically and playfully guides young internet users through basic topics related to behaviour and safety online. It is also hoped that this resource will be a great tool for parents to help them discuss issues such as the internet, social networks, gaming, or cyberbullying with their children.

For Generation Z, a new Instagram profile,@no_net_drama.Young people worked with the Czech Safer Internet Centre to create a resource dedicated to security topics and speaking to the target group in a language that adults sometimes may not understand. To mark Safer Internet Day 2024, a successful campaign with several influencers was launched, with a reach of over one million views.

Infographics

To raise awareness of the Croatian Safer Internet Centre project, a consortium of four cooperating organisations (CZ.NIC, Linka bezpečí, JSNS, and DKC) created an infographic summarising joint achievements in 2023…and there were many of them. Over 240 school visits were conducted, 31 print materials were published, and more than 3,700 reports were received.

According to the evaluation, this year’s celebration of Safer Internet Day in the Czech Republic was a real success. Over four hundred organisations participated in SID 2024, including the Elementary School in Prague—Hostivař. A report about Safer Internet Day was broadcast on Czech Television children's channel Déčko, specifically in the children's news programme "Zpravičky".
