ADWeeks2024 campaign promoted internet safety in Lithuania

The ALL DIGITAL Weeks campaign is one of the major pan-European awareness raising campaigns on digital skills for inclusion, empowerment and employment. It is organised by ALL DIGITAL Network, and it has been running since 2010. Since then, the campaign has helped almost 1,5 million people to get online for the first time, or to improve their digital skills.

This is the 15th time the campaign has been organised in Lithuania under the coordination of the association Langas į ateitį. Three main themes were chosen for the three weeks of the 2024 campaign:

  1. Cybersecurity
  2. Digital skills – from basic to advanced
  3. Safer internet and AI in education

During the three thematic weeks of the campaign, citizens were invited to watch webinars presenting online resources and the opportunities offered by the internet, participate in educational events in public libraries and educational institutions, to test and improve their digital skills in quizzes, watch films on human rights issues with their community. The campaign reached over 40,000 Lithuanian citizens.

Online seminars

  • According to international research, Lithuanians are still one of the most likely to share their passwords and PIN codes with others. Data privacy and caution are among the key elements of everyone’s digital immunity, because scammers are always searching for new ways to trick people. The webinar “Digital immunity. How to strengthen your pin codes and resistance to fraud” covered the purpose of PIN codes and their safety, provided an overview of the most popular fraud techniques and advised on how to stay vigilant to online threats. The recording of the seminar is available here.
  • The webinar “Stay connected” provided important advice for connectivity: how to choose the most suitable mobile and internet access services, where to find relevant and objective information on the quality of communication services, and who can help in case of poor connection. The recording of the seminar is available here.
  • According to the latest World Health Organisation’s survey on pupils’ mental health and lifestyles, one out of six children in Lithuania is being bullied online. During the webinar “Cyberbullying: what adults need to know”, the representative of the Lithuanian Child Line shared how children communicate online, how adults can keep up with the digital world of children and teenagers, what are the characteristics of cyberbullying, and how we can help children experiencing cyberbullying. The recording of the seminar is available here.

Film screenings

The coordinators of the campaign in Lithuania were pleased to cooperate with the NK-DOKU platform of "Nepatogus kinas", which is a platform for communities in Lithuania to watch free quality documentaries on human rights issues. Taking advantage of this opportunity, public libraries and educational institutions organised screenings of the films "Girl gang", "Sing me a song" and "A wider screen" for their communities. During the campaign, 30 screenings of the movies were organised, attended by almost 400 participants.

Campaign in public libraries and educational institutions

Traditionally, public libraries joined the campaign activities across the country. 148 libraries and their branches, together with educational institutions, invited over 3,000 visitors to participate in the campaign.

Public libraries and educational institutions organised training sessions on digital literacy skills, invited students to an educational session on data privacy, explored the hidden side of artificial intelligence and importance of developing critical thinking, discussed cyberbullying and safe communication in online games, actively watched the webinars organised publicly during the campaign.
