On Thursday, 26 March 2026, the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) celebrated Safer Internet Day 2026 with an interactive online workshop, “Sure! Here’s a suggestion. What would you do?”, which was attended online by hundreds of classes from primary and secondary schools across Spain. For 45 minutes, we worked with the students on making smart decisions in situations such as the dissemination of intimate images generated by AI, deepfakes related to loot boxes (or spending money in exchange for random rewards in video games), as well as the importance of reporting inappropriate content.
Through various scenarios presented in video format, the students reflected on and made decisions. In addition, they were also shown the consequences and explanations in the form of lessons learnt for each step they took.
The need and importance of addressing these issues from an early age, when children are first exposed to new technologies, is evident from the enthusiastic response to this edition of the online workshop, which was attended by over 10,000 pupils from across the country.
This workshop, developed in collaboration with the National Institute for Educational Technologies and Teacher Training (INTEF), aims to encourage children, young people and their immediate communities to use digital technologies safely and positively, by developing their digital skills and helping them to be respectful, critical and creative, in line with European digital principles.
The live workshop can be viewed here: https://www.incibe.es/eventos/sid
Furthermore, this workshop forms part of the themed campaign we have recently launched on Artificial intelligence and Digital Safety in the context of children and young people, aimed at them, their families and their teachers. Would you like to find out more? Check out the AI campaign!
