The guide was published on Safer Internet Day 2020 by the Media Council for Children and Young People in collaboration with Save the Children Denmark and Center for Digital Youth Care.
It underwent a larger update on Safer Internet Day 2026, where a new chapter on video game influencers was added along with new and relevant information on retention strategies and monetisation in video games.
