Better Internet for Kids

The purpose of this Directive is to provide a comprehensive framework to effectively prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence throughout the Union. It does so by strengthening and introducing measures in relation to the following areas: the definition of relevant criminal offences and penalties, the protection of victims and access to justice, victim support, enhanced data collection, prevention, coordination and cooperation.

Children should be able to report such violence, via procedures that are safe, confidential, designed and accessible in a child-friendly manner and language, age-appropriate and corresponding to their level of maturity. Children should receive specialised and age-appropriate victim support, and adequate temporary accommodation if they are victims or witnesses of such violence. Possible meetings between a child and a parent who is an offender or suspect of violence against women or domestic violence should be organised when necessary in a safe place, and in the best interests of the child.
