Better Internet for Kids

The Switched On programme has been developed to assist and support educators when teaching primary pupils aged 10 - 13 years old how to be safe, responsible and competent digital citizens. 

The Switched On programme will raise pupils’ awareness of how they can be active digital citizens in a variety of digital-related activity – whether it be creating or publishing content, socialising, learning, researching or playing games. 

This anti-bullying educational resource is designed to support teachers in addressing the learning outcomes within the Junior Cycle SPHE course that relate to online bullying and abusive behaviour and to empower students to take action against online bullying, through their own positive actions and behaviours.This educational resource should be used as part of a whole education approach to preventing bullying. In delivering these lessons teachers are embedding anti-bullying education within the SPHE curriculum for junior cycle students. Teachers can use this resource:

This lesson has been developed to explain the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020, also known as Coco's Law, and the legal consequences of it for young people aged 13 - 15 years old.

Note: This lesson is best delivered after completing the Lockers resource, to ensure a clear progression in learning. If teachers would like to explore the legal side of Coco’s Law further, they can invite a member of An Garda Síochána to speak with students. They can provide deeper insight into the legal aspects of this legislation.

The primary objective of the Garda lesson for first and second year students is to raise awareness about Coco’s Law, which criminalises certain online behaviours like the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and cyberbullying.

By explaining the key elements of the law, students gain awareness of the legal consequences associated with harmful digital behaviour, ensuring they understand the seriousness of such actions.

The Cyberbullying Guidance for Teachers Information Hub has been created by Webwise to provide guidance to teachers and school leaders on the issue of cyberbullying, creating an anti-cyberbullying culture and promoting student’s wellbeing including online wellbeing. 

It also supports teachers and school leaders participating in the online cyberbullying courses developed by the PDST Technology in Education with Webwise.

This collection contains learning activities for primary school children about a safer and more positive use of the internet. It is aimed at teachers and educational professionals, and contains practical activities (games, handicrafts) and worksheets that can be implemented quickly.
