Young People and Algorithms

This classroom activity aims to allow young people to reflect on their perspectives and provide them with information on the importance of understanding the underlying mechanisms behind personal recommendation algorithms. The students are presented with knowledge, dilemmas, and opinions that form the basis for discussions in the classroom. The educational material contains various exercises that serve different purposes. These exercises include plenary and floor exercises as well as board games. The purpose of these classroom activities is to enhance young individuals' understanding of algorithms and raise awareness about the influence of algorithms on their digital lives.

The educational material was developed by the Media Council for Children & Young People and the Center for Digital Youth Care. The material is the result of extensive involvement from young participants, with 250 students from the 8th grade participating in workshops to contribute to its development.
