A short version of "A knowledge overview regarding methods for counteracting racism, other hostility and hate crime online, among children and young people"

A report aimed at identifying, compiling and disseminating methods that have been shown to counteract racism and similar forms of hostility and hate crime online. The report was a government assignment for the Swedish Media Council. The Swedish Media Council has collaborated with several organisations and researchers and has also been in dialogue with youth organisations to get their perspectives.

Knowledge gaps and lack of impact evaluations make it difficult to recommend specific methods. What is required is continuous, conscious, and active work on these issues. Schools have an important role and associations, and there are opportunities to further expand current work and methods to include what happens online.

The report states that all adults need to prevent and take action when something bad happens. They need to learn more about young people's online lives and how it is integrated throughout their lives. In addition, adults need to learn more about racism and LGBTQI-phobia and how different situations can be part of a larger pattern of exposure to harassment.

The involvement of children and young people is also seen as an important part of the existing methods of work.
