Every year, on the second Tuesday of February, we celebrate Safer Internet Day, which falls on February 11th this year. You can join the celebrations by participating in the challenge "Together for a Better Internet" and making use of the newly released handbook. This handbook offers a wide range of tips and activities tailored to different age groups—from young children in kindergartens to seniors. It is designed for both organizations and individuals. The coordination of Safer Internet Day in the Czech Republic is managed by the national Safer Internet Center.
In the field of online safety, many preventive programs and educational materials, including audiovisual resources, are being developed in the Czech Republic. A well-organized selection of tips and activities that can contribute to a safer internet can be found in the new handbook. It includes:
- Recommendations on how to discuss cybersecurity with children, for example, using the book Online ZOO,
- Activity suggestions for lower secondary and high school students, including our Online Media Literacy Courses,
- Useful tips for parents,
- A directory of additional inspiring resources and posters.
Safer Internet Day is not just for organizations working in security, prevention, education, and online intervention. Anyone can get involved—children, students, parents, the general public, as well as state and educational institutions.
