The fourth edition of the MOOC Cyberinformed Citizen Course course aims to combat hate speech, which promotes the easy, rapid and virtually uncontrollable spread of disinformation and poses a threat to democratic societies. The module begins with a definition of hate speech and provides examples of some of the rhetorical and discursive strategies used by those who engage in this type of speech. Methods of countering hate speech are then presented, namely the use of counter-narratives, demonstrating inconsistencies and fallacies, the use of humor, identification and/or solidarity with the target group, and denunciation of the author of hate speech.
