Media Literacy Weeks 2025

From 19-30 May, the ninth annual Media Literacy Weeks took place, during which 473 schools and other institutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia focused on media literacy.

This year, we offered participants the Media Literacy Fair at the National Library of Technology in Prague. Teachers, educators, and NGO representatives had the opportunity to gain new knowledge, skills, and inspiration from across all areas of media education through a wide range of activities. The fair was attended by more than 200 participants

For students, we organised five discussions with journalists, giving visitors a closer look at their profession. Tereza Povolná (Seznam Zprávy) and Michael Rozsypal (Czech Radio) interviewed Zdislava Pokorná (Deník N) and František Trojan (Respekt) in České Budějovice; Barbora Loudová (Czech Television) and Eva Soukeníková (Czech Radio) in Karlovy Vary; and Petra Procházková (Deník N) and Martin Dorazín (Czech Radio).

At the final two debates in Brno and Ostrava, our moderators — experienced journalists — also took on the role of guests, sharing their insights alongside Erik Tabery (Respekt) and Klára Filipová (Okraj). The debates were attended by more than 600 pupils and students

More than 40 libraries across the Czech Republic took part in Media Literacy Weeks with programmes from the JSNS offer. A new feature this year was the expansion to Slovakia, where 32 Slovak libraries joined through the Media Literacy for Schools programme.
