”Check the Game”

“Check the Game” (Swe: Kolla spelet.se) is a guide to games that are popular among children and youth. The website describes how the games function and if there are risks within the games that adults need to be aware of. The guide is aimed for parents and other adults that work with children and gaming.

Children often describe gaming as their most entertaining leisure activity. However, there are games that encourage the user to buy things or keep playing outside of their control. Sometimes this is an example of what is called “manipulative design”. How can you as an adult consider these risks, and what do you need to know? Through “Check the Game” you can learn more, and there are more than 30 games described, for example Fortnite, World of Warcraft and Roblox.

“Check the Game” is a translation of the Danish site “Tjeckspillet.dk” and is developed through a collaboration between Safer Internet Centre Sweden/The Swedish Agency for the Media,  University of Lund, the Region of Skane, ChildX, the municipality of Lund and the Swedish Order of Freemasons.
