The Use of Technologies by Minors in Spain. Edition 2024 – Data 2023

Title (original language): El uso de tecnologías por los menores en España. Edición 2024 – Datos 2023

The Use of Technologies by Minors in Spain, Edition 2024 - Data 2023, is a report published the National Observatory of Technology and Society analysing the relationship between minors and digital technologies, considering various demographic factors including gender, age, region, and household income.

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of how Spanish children and adolescents (ages 10–15/17) use digital technologies, drawing on the latest data from the National Statistics Institute’s (INE) Survey on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households. The report examines device ownership, internet access, frequency and purposes of use (communication, entertainment, learning), and parental mediation, with results broken down by gender, age, region, and household income.

It tracks the evolution of these indicators over recent years, highlighting trends such as high rates of smartphone and internet access, increasing use of social media and online gaming, and persistent digital divides related to socioeconomic status.

The report also addresses online risks, digital skills, and the impact of new regulations and parental controls. In addition, it describes the main initiatives of the Spanish Government, the European Commission, and other institutions aimed at empowering and protecting children in the digital environment, supporting evidence-based policy and digital inclusion strategies.
